Pre-cut butcher paper sheets are single sheets of 40 lb butcher paper cut to one of four sizes, from 12 x 12 in to 24 x 36 in, in pink, white or brown kraft. They do the same work as paper off a roll, but with no dispenser, no tearing bar and no half-torn edge. Delis, sandwich counters, smokehouses and meat markets use them wherever a roll would get in the way.

Goes with pre-cut butcher paper sheets

What buyers usually add to the same ticket.

All butcher paper

Butcher paper cut to size, packed flat, ready at the counter

A pre-cut butcher paper sheet is one piece of 40 lb butcher paper trimmed square and stacked in a carton. There is nothing to tear, nothing to unwind and nothing to jam.

The buyers are counters where a roll is a nuisance. A sandwich shop with eight inches of bench space. A food truck with no wall to hang a dispenser. A meat market that sends staff out to a farmers market table on weekends.

Smokehouses buy them too, mostly in the two big sizes. A pitmaster can keep a stack of 24 x 36 in pink beside the smoker and wrap a packer without wrestling a 1,000 ft roll in the heat.

Why buy sheets instead of a roll and dispenser?

A roll is cheaper per square foot and never runs short mid-shift. Sheets win on everything else at a small or crowded counter.

If you wrap more than a few hundred cuts a day from one station, a roll still makes sense. Compare the widths on the butcher paper rolls range page before you decide.

Which pre-cut sheet size fits the cut?

The four typical sizes cover most counters. Pick by the biggest thing you wrap every day, not the biggest thing you wrap once a month.

  • 12 x 12 in: a sandwich half, a burger, a bundle of sausage links. Fold it twice and the paper closes around the food like a pocket.
  • 15 x 20 in: two pork chops, a pair of steaks, half a chicken. Enough overlap to tuck the ends under.
  • 18 x 24 in: a rib rack, a small roast, a footlong sub with sides. This is the usual pick for a butcher counter that only buys one size.
  • 24 x 36 in: a whole packer brisket, double wrapped. Lay two sheets in a cross and the second layer seals the first.

Any other size is a custom cut; put it on the quote and the price comes back in writing. The butcher paper size chart lists every typical size side by side.

How does a pre-cut sheet handle heat, grease and moisture?

Pink sheets are uncoated and breathable. Wrap a hot brisket and steam passes out through the fiber while the bark stays dry enough to hold its crust.

White sheets are uncoated as standard, which means grease shows through. A greasy sandwich leaves a visible shadow on white within a minute or two. If the look matters, ask for the waxed white on the quote; it holds grease on the inside face.

Brown kraft is unbleached and uncoated. It hides grease marks better than white and has the stiffest hand of the three, so a 12 x 12 in kraft sheet folds into a sharper corner.

Pink, white or brown: which color should a sheet counter stock?

There is no wrong answer, but each color has a natural home.

  • Pink: smokehouses, BBQ caterers and anyone wrapping hot meat. Also called peach paper.
  • White: delis, sandwich counters and bakeries that want a clean, bright wrap. Take it waxed if the fillings are oily.
  • Brown kraft: butcher shops, jerky and sausage brands, farm stands. One dark ink on kraft reads as a stamp and costs less than two.

Read the pink, white and brown comparison guide if the choice is still open.

Can pre-cut butcher paper sheets be printed?

Yes, and sheets are the easier format to print well. On a roll the pattern repeats and the logo lands wherever the tear falls. On a sheet the logo sits in the same spot on every wrap.

Send vector artwork if you have it. One or two colors is the sweet spot; four colors on pink paper looks dull because the stock is not white. Pantone solid-coated matches are available on all three colors.

The free design proof shows the logo at true size on the sheet you chose, so you can see whether a 3 in mark on a 24 x 36 in sheet is too small to notice. Unlimited edits until you approve it. For an all-over pattern or a two-sided job, start at custom printed butcher paper.

How are 1,000-sheet cartons packed and stored?

Sheets ship flat in a lidded carton of 1,000, counted and squared. The carton for 12 x 12 in sheets is small enough for one hand; the 24 x 36 in carton needs two and a clear shelf.

Store the carton closed and off the floor. Butcher paper picks up humidity, and a damp stack sticks together at the edges. Keep it away from the dish pit and the ice machine.

At the counter, decant a day's worth into a tray or a slot under the bench. Nobody wants to lift a full carton every time they wrap a sandwich.

Mistakes to avoid with pre-cut sheets

  • Buying 12 x 12 in for subs. A footlong hangs out both ends; go up to 18 x 24 in.
  • Ordering white uncoated for oily fillings and then being surprised by the grease shadow.
  • Choosing a size by the carton price alone. A sheet that is too small gets doubled up, which costs more than the right size.
  • Printing a thin, light-colored logo on brown kraft. It vanishes. Use a solid dark ink.
  • Approving the proof on a phone screen. Open it on a monitor and check the logo size against a ruler.

How to order pre-cut butcher paper sheets

  1. Pick the color and one of the four sizes, or write in a custom cut.

  3. Attach a logo if the sheets are printed, or mark them plain.
  4. A written quote arrives within one business day.

Pre-Cut Butcher Paper Sheets questions

Answered by the people who quote, proof and ship it.

How many pre-cut butcher paper sheets come in a carton?

1,000 sheets, flat and counted. That carton is also the minimum order, in one color and one size; mixed sizes go on the quote as separate lines.

Can I mix sizes or colors of pre-cut sheets in one order?

Yes, as separate lines on the same quote. Each line still needs its own 1,000-sheet carton, so two sizes means at least 2,000 sheets.

Are pre-cut sheets the same paper as the rolls?

Yes. Same 40 lb butcher paper in pink, white or brown, just cut to a fixed size and boxed instead of rewound on a core.

Do pre-cut sheets come waxed?

White sheets can be waxed on request; pink and brown are always uncoated. Say waxed on the quote and the price reflects it.

Will grease show through a white pre-cut sheet?

On uncoated white, yes, within a few minutes of wrapping something oily. Waxed white holds it; brown kraft hides it.

What size pre-cut sheet double wraps a packer brisket?

24 x 36 in. Lay the first sheet long ways under the brisket, fold it tight, then turn the packer and wrap the second sheet across the seam.

Can pre-cut sheets go in the smoker with the meat?

Plain pink, white and brown sheets can, through the wrap stage at normal smoking temperatures. Keep printed sheets for the counter and the box rather than the cook chamber.

Where does a logo print on a pre-cut sheet?

Wherever you place it on the proof. The usual spot is centered, sized so it shows once the sheet is folded around the food.

Do pre-cut butcher paper sheets fit a standard sandwich wrap fold?

A 12 x 12 in sheet folds on the diagonal with two tucks and closes around a sandwich half. For a full sub use 18 x 24 in.

How should I store a carton of pre-cut sheets?

Closed, flat and dry, off the floor. Pull a day's worth at a time; the rest stays squared in the box.

Can pre-cut sheets be ordered in a size that is not listed?

Yes. Any cut is a custom size; write the dimensions on the quote and we price it in writing.

What is the price of pre-cut butcher paper sheets?

From $0.30 a sheet on a written quote. The exact figure depends on size, color and whether the sheets print.
