What white butcher paper is

White butcher paper is bleached 40 lb kraft, the same basis weight as pink and brown. It is uncoated unless you ask for wax, which means it breathes, tears by hand and takes ink the way a page does.

It is the color most people picture when they say butcher paper: the sheet a deli slaps a sandwich onto, the roll in the grocery meat department, the paper on the table at a crawfish boil.

Every product on this site that comes in white is listed further down. Rolls, sheets, liners and bags all cut from the same stock.

How does white butcher paper handle grease and heat?

Uncoated white shows grease. Wrap a hot pastrami on rye and a dark shadow spreads across the paper within a minute or two. For a deli that hands the sandwich over the counter, nobody cares. For a basket that sits on a table under a heat lamp, it can look tired.

Waxed white fixes that. A thin wax face holds grease on the surface so the outside stays white. The trade-off is that waxed paper does not breathe and should stay away from the smoker; wax and a 275°F cook chamber do not mix.

Under heat without wax, white behaves like pink. It breathes, it goes translucent where fat touches it, and it does not scorch at smoking temperatures.

Which products come in white butcher paper?

  • White butcher paper rolls: 18, 24, 30 and 36 in wide, 1,000 ft, for a counter dispenser.
  • Butcher paper table covers: 36 to 48 in wide rolls for boils, tailgates and family-style tables.
  • Pre-cut butcher paper sheets: 12 x 12 in to 24 x 36 in, the deli and sandwich counter wrap.
  • Steak paper sheets: 8 x 11 in to 15 x 20 in for lining a meat case and dividing cuts.
  • Butcher paper tray liners: 8 x 10 in to 12 x 18 in for baskets and platters, plain or printed.
  • Custom printed butcher paper: any size, 1 to 4 colors, on white or any other stock.
  • Branded BBQ wrapping paper: printed squares for the counter hand-off.
  • Printed meat counter paper: rolls with a repeat logo for the deli and the butcher.
  • Butcher paper bags: flat and gusseted bags in white for jerky, sausage and sandwiches.

Start with white butcher paper rolls if the counter already has a dispenser; the sheets and liners cover everything else.

What prints well on white butcher paper?

White is the stock to print on when color matters. Pink warms every ink a shade and kraft swallows anything pale. On white, a Pantone solid-coated match comes out the color you asked for.

One to four colors in food-safe soy and water-based ink. A two-color repeat pattern is the common deli order; a four-color logo in one spot is the common restaurant order. Both get a free design proof with unlimited edits before the run.

Keep coverage light under food that will be eaten off the paper. Heavy solids look like a poster, not a wrap. See the printed butcher paper range for every custom option.

Mistakes to avoid with white butcher paper

Uncoated white for wings in sauce. It soaks through; waxed white is the right order.

Waxed white in the smoker. The wax melts into the bark.

Buying white for a smokehouse because it is the familiar color. Pink does the same job, hides the grease and looks like barbecue.

Expecting white to match a white plate exactly. Bleached kraft is bright but warm; a Pantone match on the print is exact, the paper itself is paper.

White Butcher Paper questions

Is white butcher paper coated?

Not as standard. It ships uncoated and breathable; ask for waxed on the quote and the white gets a thin wax face that holds grease.

Can I smoke a brisket in white butcher paper?

Yes, in uncoated white. It breathes like pink and takes smoke through the paper. Never use waxed white in the smoker.

Why does grease show through white butcher paper so fast?

Uncoated paper absorbs fat into the fiber and the bleached sheet turns translucent where it does. Waxed white or brown kraft hides it.

Is white butcher paper the same as freezer paper?

No. Freezer paper has a poly coating on one side; white butcher paper is plain paper, uncoated or waxed. Freezer paper does not breathe and should not go in a smoker.

Does white butcher paper print in full color?

Yes, up to four colors in food-safe soy and water-based inks, with Pantone solid-coated matches. White is the stock where the color comes out as specified.

Which white butcher paper product suits a deli counter?

A white roll on a counter dispenser for the slicer, plus 12 x 12 in pre-cut sheets for sandwich halves. Many delis run both.

Can white butcher paper cover a table for a crawfish boil?

Yes. The table cover rolls come 36 to 48 in wide in white, and one pull down a folding table takes the spread, shells and all.

Is white butcher paper bleached?

Yes, it is bleached kraft, which is what makes it white. Pink is lightly dyed and brown is unbleached; all three are 40 lb.

What widths do white butcher paper rolls come in?

18, 24, 30 and 36 in as the typical four, all at 1,000 ft. Other widths are a custom slit on the quote.

How much does white butcher paper cost compared with pink?

The quote tells you; the written price depends on product, size, waxed or not, and printing. Sheets of any color start from $0.30 a sheet; rolls are priced by the roll on the quote.
