A white butcher paper roll is bleached 40 lb kraft, wound on a standard core for counter dispensers. The uncoated version breathes and takes ink in full color; the waxed version holds moisture for a day in the case. Butcher shops, meat markets and burger kitchens buy it by the roll.

What buyers usually add to the same ticket.
Who buys white butcher paper by the roll
White butcher paper is bleached 40 lb kraft. It is the roll most butcher counters already have, and the one that reads cleanest on a bright case.
Meat markets wrap patties, steaks and chops in it, fold the ends, tape and price the parcel. Burger kitchens layer patties between it so they come apart without tearing.
Delis turn to it for sliced cheese and cold cuts. Restaurants line bread baskets and wrap sandwiches, and caterers use the 36 in roll for buffet tables and carving stations.
Jerky brands and sausage makers use white for the inside of a gift box, where the sheet has to look clean against the product. Food trucks tear it for fries and sandwich baskets because it reads as fresh under a heat lamp.
Uncoated or waxed: which white roll do you need?
Uncoated is the standard and the one we print on. The sheet is porous, so ink sinks in, moisture passes through and a warm sandwich does not steam itself soggy.
Waxed is made on request for raw meat that sits wrapped in the case. The wax layer faces the meat, holds the juice inside and keeps the outside of the parcel dry for a day.
Pick uncoated for anything hot, anything printed, and anything that goes in a smoker. Pick waxed for the meat case and the freezer. Do not put waxed paper on a pit.
Waxed white cannot be printed, so a shop that wants both a logo and a case wrap orders two rolls.
- Uncoated: counter wrap sold that day, hot sandwiches, tray lining, every printed job.
- Waxed: raw patties and chops held in the case till morning, freezer wrap under a second layer, fish.
- Either: table covers, bread baskets, dry goods.
How does white paper handle raw patties and grease?
The photo shows the main use: a raw patty on the sheet, with the paper folded over the top. Uncoated white holds a patty for the shift without sticking; the surface is smooth enough that the meat lifts clean.
Grease shows on white sooner than on pink. A fatty cut leaves a visible mark in about ten minutes, which is fine for a parcel going out the door and less fine for display.
For the freezer, wrap twice with the waxed side in and tape the seam. Air is what burns the meat, so pull the paper tight against it.
White roll paper goes in a smoker if uncoated, and it works, but the smoke stains it tan. Most pits choose pink for that reason alone.
A whole roast chicken goes out in 24 in white folded drugstore style: bring the long edges together, fold them down twice, tuck the ends under. The parcel holds for the ride home without tape.
Which white roll width suits a butcher counter?
Four widths cover most counters. Match the width to the biggest parcel you wrap every day, not the biggest one you wrap once a month.
| Roll size | Counter use | Sheets at a 24 in cut |
|---|---|---|
| 18 in x 1,000 ft | Patties, chops, cold cuts, sandwiches | About 500 |
| 24 in x 1,000 ft | Whole chickens, roasts, family packs | About 500 |
| 30 in x 1,000 ft | Large roasts, racks of ribs, tray lining | About 500 |
| 36 in x 1,000 ft | Table covers, carving stations, whole primal wraps | About 500 |
The sheet count does not move with width; a 1,000 ft roll cut at 24 in gives about 500 sheets whatever the width. Other widths are a custom cut, so note them on the quote.
Thirty inches is the width many counters overlook. It takes a full rack of ribs flat, lines a full sheet pan with an overhang, and still fits most wall dispensers.
Printing on white: the stock for exact brand colors
White is the only butcher paper that shows ink as it is. A Pantone red on pink turns brick; on kraft it turns mud; on white it is the red on your sign.
We match Pantone solid-coated references in up to four colors, in soy and water-based inks made for food contact. Two colors is the sweet spot for a counter wrap; four is for a repeat pattern with a full illustration.
Keep the mark between 2 and 4 in wide and repeat it across the sheet. On a roll you cannot control where the tear lands, so a repeat is the only way to guarantee the logo faces out on every parcel.
Keep type above 8 pt. Fine serifs fill in on uncoated paper, and a hairline in the logo disappears.
The printed meat counter paper rolls page shows how the same white roll looks with a shop name on it.
How do you load a white roll into a counter dispenser?
- Lift the old core out and wipe the serrated blade; dried grease on the teeth makes a ragged tear.
- Slide the new roll onto the spindle with the paper feeding from the bottom, toward you.
- Pull about 12 in through under the blade and tear once to square the edge.
- Set the brake, if the dispenser has one, so the roll stops when you stop pulling.
A full 1,000 ft roll is a two-hand lift. Load it before the shift, not in the middle of service.
Store the spare roll in its carton on a shelf, not on the floor, and it loads clean.
Mistakes to avoid with white roll paper
- Ordering waxed for a printed job. Ink does not sit on wax; print goes on uncoated only.
- Using 18 in for whole birds. The ends do not meet and the parcel leaks on the scale.
- Leaving the roll on a wet counter. The outer wraps soak up water and the first few feet are waste.
- Printing a pale yellow on white. It reads as a stain, not a logo.
- Freezer wrapping in one uncoated layer. Frost forms inside within a week.
Ordering white butcher paper rolls
Tell us the width, the number of rolls, uncoated or waxed, and whether a logo goes on. A written quote with the exact price comes back within one business day.
Plain white rolls start production as soon as you accept the quote. Printed rolls get a free proof first; you can edit it as many times as you like, and nothing is printed until you approve.
Production runs 4 to 6 business days after that, then free tracked delivery to any US address in 2 to 3 business days. One roll is the minimum, so a single counter can order without over-stocking.
If the roll is for a smoker rather than a counter, say so. We will steer you to uncoated and mention pink as the alternative.
Compare it against the other two colors on the butcher paper rolls range page before you send the ticket.
White Butcher Paper Rolls questions
Answered by the people who quote, proof and ship it.
Is a white butcher paper roll uncoated or waxed when I order it?
Uncoated unless you ask for waxed on the quote. Uncoated is the one we print on; waxed is for raw meat held in the case.
Can I print a Pantone color on a white butcher paper roll?
Yes. White is the only stock that shows a Pantone solid-coated match true, in up to four colors.
Will a white roll keep burger patties from sticking together?
Yes. Stack patties with a sheet of uncoated white between each and they peel apart cold or frozen.
Does white roll paper work for freezer wrap?
Yes, with the waxed version and two layers. Wax side faces the meat, pull it tight and tape the seam.
Why does grease show faster on white rolls than on pink?
White is bleached, so a fat mark reads darker against it. The paper is otherwise the same 40 lb sheet.
Which white roll width covers a carving station?
36 in. It runs the length of a six foot table with a drop at the front, and the same roll wraps whole primals.
Can a white butcher paper roll go in a smoker?
Uncoated, yes; it breathes the same as pink. It stains tan from smoke, so most pits use it for the counter and pink for the pit.
How many 24 in sheets does a 30 in x 1,000 ft white roll give?
About 500. Length sets the count; the 30 in width only changes how big each sheet is.
Does the white roll core fit the dispenser already on my counter?
Yes. It is the standard core, so it drops onto the spindle of a normal counter dispenser with a serrated blade.
Can I order one waxed and one uncoated white roll together?
Yes. List them as two lines on the quote and they ship in the same delivery.
How many colors can go on a printed white roll?
Up to four, matched to Pantone solid-coated references. Two is enough for most counter wraps.
Does a plain white roll need a design proof?
No. Plain rolls skip the proof and go to production when you accept the written quote; the shipping and lead time page shows the steps after that.
