What buyers usually add to the same ticket.
What is printed meat counter paper?
Printed meat counter paper is roll stock with a repeat print, torn off the dispenser the same way as plain paper. Butcher shops wrap steaks and chops in it. Delis fold it over a pound of sliced turkey. Sandwich counters tear a length to line a basket.
The photo shows the kraft version lining a basket of pastries, which is how a cafe counter uses the same roll. A roll on the counter does more jobs than a box of sheets, because the length is whatever you tear.
It is the same 40 lb paper as our plain rolls. White here is uncoated; waxed white is a custom request on the quote.
Which roll width fits your counter dispenser?
Most counter dispensers take 15 in, 18 in or 24 in rolls on a standard core. Measure the inside of the dispenser between the end plates and buy the widest roll that fits. The table shows the four typical rolls and roughly how many cuts each gives.
| Typical roll | Fits | Cuts at an 18 in tear |
|---|---|---|
| 15 in x 1,000 ft | Small deli dispensers; chops, sausages, sandwiches | About 660 |
| 18 in x 1,000 ft | The standard butcher counter roll; steaks, roasts | About 660 |
| 24 in x 700 ft | Wide dispensers; whole chickens, family packs | About 460 |
| 24 in x 1,000 ft | Wide dispensers on busy counters; fewer roll changes | About 660 |
24 in is the width to buy if you only buy one roll size. It wraps a roast and a chop alike, and one wide roll beats juggling two narrow ones.
How does printed paper behave under raw meat?
Uncoated paper breathes, so a steak wrapped at the counter does not sweat inside the paper on the drive home. Moisture from the meat soaks into the sheet slowly. A pound of ground beef wrapped for an hour will show a damp patch, which is why some counters double wrap.
The print sits on the outside of the roll as it comes off the dispenser, so the inside face against the meat is blank. Tear, lay the cut on the blank side, fold and tape as always.
Kraft hides blood and juice stains better than white or pink. White shows the cut clearly through the fold, which some butchers prefer for a display wrap. Wet product such as fresh fish does better on waxed white, so ask for that on the quote if fish is on the counter.
Why is a repeat pattern the only layout for a roll?
A roll has no fixed sheet. Each tear lands somewhere else along the print, so a single logo would be cut in half as often as not. A repeat at 3 in or 5 in spacing shows a whole mark on every piece, however short the tear.
At 3 in spacing a 15 in wide roll shows a mark every 3 in across and along. At 5 in the pattern reads calmer and suits a bigger wordmark. Both run without bleed, because the pattern is continuous.
Keep the mark small. A logo 2 in wide repeated along a counter roll reads as texture; one 6 in wide reads as a poster and gets chopped by every tear.
One color on kraft, or color on white?
Kraft rolls take one dark ink: black, dark brown, deep green. The brown stock pulls every color darker, and a pale ink vanishes. One color on kraft is the pick for most meat markets.
White rolls print any Pantone solid-coated color as drawn, in one to four inks. A red and black deli mark, or a green farm logo, holds its shade on white.
Pink rolls suit a smokehouse counter that sells by the pound. A black repeat on pink is a clean look, and the paper still breathes under a hot cut. The plain pink butcher paper rolls use the same stock without the print.
Cores, dispensers and running out
Every printed roll winds on a standard core, so it drops into the dispenser you already have. A 1,000 ft roll at 660 cuts lasts a busy shop about a week; a quiet deli gets a month from it.
Rolls ship boxed, one or more to a carton, and stand on end in storage. Keep them off a damp floor; the bottom edge of a roll picks up moisture before anything else. A carton holding two 24 in rolls is heavy, so lift it with a second person or slide it.
Order the next roll when the first is a third through. With 4 to 6 business days of production plus delivery, a reorder placed at the last tear leaves the counter on plain paper for a week or two.
Artwork notes for a roll print
- Send the logo as AI, PDF or SVG; a 300 dpi PNG is the fallback
- One mark, 1 to 3 in wide, is enough for a counter roll
- Choose 3 in or 5 in spacing, or let the proof show both
- Give a Pantone solid-coated number if the shade matters
- No bleed is needed; the repeat runs edge to edge
- Any text, such as a phone number, goes below the mark, not beside it
Ask for the proof to show a length of roll rather than a single sheet, so the repeat across a tear is clear.
Mistakes to avoid when ordering printed counter rolls
- Measuring the dispenser from the outside instead of between the end plates
- Putting a single logo on a roll; it tears in half
- Printing a light ink on kraft stock
- Ordering 700 ft when the counter burns through 1,000 ft in a week
- Running a seasonal line on paper that sits on the counter all year
If the dispenser is older, send a photo with the quote and we check the width and core against it.
How do I order printed meat counter paper?
Rolls are priced by the roll on the written quote, and the minimum is one roll. The price depends on width, length, stock and ink count, and the quote arrives within one business day.
- Ask for a quote with the roll size, stock color, ink count and roll count.
- Send artwork. A free proof follows; edit it as many times as you like.
- Approve the proof. Rolls print in 4 to 6 business days.
- Free tracked delivery to any US address follows in 2 to 3 business days.
- Report a misprint or a crushed roll within 10 days with photos for a reprint or refund.
Plain rolls to run beside the printed one are on the butcher paper rolls range page.
Printed Meat Counter Paper questions
Answered by the people who quote, proof and ship it.
Which widths of printed meat counter paper fit a standard dispenser?
15 in, 18 in and 24 in rolls fit the usual counter dispensers on a standard core. Measure between the end plates to be sure.
Why can I not put a single centered logo on printed counter paper?
Because every tear lands at a different point along the roll, a single logo would be cut through most of the time. A repeat at 3 in or 5 in spacing shows a whole mark on each piece.
Does printed meat counter paper come in kraft, white and pink?
Yes, all three. Kraft takes one dark ink, white takes up to four Pantone-matched colors, and pink suits smokehouse counters.
Is the printed face of counter paper the side that touches the meat?
No. The print faces outward as the paper comes off the dispenser, so the cut sits on the blank inner face.
How many cuts does a 1,000 ft printed counter roll give?
About 660 cuts at an 18 in tear, or about 500 at a 24 in tear. A 700 ft roll gives roughly 460 at 18 in.
Is the white printed meat counter paper waxed?
Not as standard. The white roll here is uncoated; if you need waxed white for a wet counter, ask for it on the quote.
Can printed meat counter paper be used to line baskets and trays?
Yes. Tear a length and lay it print side up, as in the photo. The soy and water-based inks are food-safe, so food can sit on the printed face.
How wide should my logo be on a printed counter roll?
Between 1 and 3 in. Smaller reads as a texture across the wrap; wider gets chopped by the tear.
What is the minimum order for printed meat counter paper rolls?
One roll. Most shops order several at once so the pattern does not run out mid-week.
Can a deli get printed counter paper in a 24 in x 700 ft roll?
Yes. The 700 ft roll is lighter to lift into a dispenser and suits a counter with less storage space.
Does the printed roll fit the dispenser I already have?
If it takes a standard core and a 15, 18 or 24 in width, yes. Send a photo of an unusual dispenser with the quote and we check.
How should I store spare rolls of printed meat counter paper?
On end, boxed, off the floor. The bottom edge picks up damp first, and a damp edge tears ragged in the dispenser.
