Roll math
Approximate sheet yield per roll by cut length. A 24 in cut covers a brisket flat; 36 in covers a packer or a half rack of ribs.
| Roll size | Cut at 24 in | Cut at 36 in | Cut at 48 in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 in x 700 ft | about 350 sheets | about 233 sheets | about 175 sheets |
| 18 in x 1,000 ft | about 500 sheets | about 333 sheets | about 250 sheets |
| 24 in x 1,000 ft | about 500 sheets | about 333 sheets | about 250 sheets |
| 36 in x 1,000 ft | about 500 sheets | about 333 sheets | about 250 sheets |
How to read the chart
Each row is one product. Rolls are written width x length, in inches by feet. So 24 in x 1,000 ft is a roll two feet across with 1,000 ft wound on it. Sheets are written width x length in inches, with the shorter edge first.
The four sizes beside each product are the typical ones, the sizes most buyers of that paper order. They are not the only sizes; they are the ones we cut without asking a question.
Choosing a roll width against the cut
Pick the width from the biggest thing you wrap, not the smallest. A packer brisket needs 24 in to meet over the top with a fold to spare. A flat or a rack of ribs is fine on 18 in. Chops and ground beef at a counter are an 18 in job all day.
If one roll must do everything, 24 in is it. It wraps a whole packer, tears short for a sandwich and sits in most counter dispensers. The brisket and rib wrapping guide shows the fold on each width.
Custom sizes and sheets per roll
Any width or sheet size not on the chart is a custom cut. Put the exact measurement on the quote; it is priced there like everything else, and we say whether it changes the production window.
To turn a roll into a sheet count, divide the length in inches by your cut length. A 1,000 ft roll is 12,000 in, so a 30 in cut gives about 400 sheets and a 20 in cut about 600. Order pre-cut sheets when the crew tears unevenly and the count matters more than the price.
Questions about sizes
Are the widths on the chart measured across the roll?
Yes. Width is the roll's face, the dimension the paper tears across. Length in feet is how much paper is wound on the core.
Is the roll length the paper only, or does it include the core?
The paper only. A 1,000 ft roll carries 1,000 ft of usable paper regardless of the core.
What core diameter do your rolls have?
The standard trade core that counter dispensers are built for. If your dispenser is unusual, measure the core it takes and put the figure on the quote.
How much variation is there on a cut sheet size?
A small trade tolerance either way on each edge. A 24 x 36 in sheet will not measure a full inch off, and it stacks square in the carton.
Can I order a width that is not on the chart?
Yes, as a custom cut. Say the width you want on the quote; most widths between the narrowest and widest listed can be slit, and the price comes by the roll.
What is the longest roll you can supply?
1,000 ft is the longest on the chart and the usual pick. Longer rolls get heavy and will not fit a counter dispenser, so we do not list them.
What is the smallest sheet on the chart?
8 x 10 in, the tray liner size, with 8 x 11 in steak paper just behind it. Smaller than that and the sheet is a label, not a wrap.
Do your roll widths match standard counter dispensers?
Yes. 15, 18 and 24 in are the dispenser widths found on most counters. 30 and 36 in rolls usually sit on a stand or a bar behind the block.
Why do 18 in and 24 in rolls give the same sheet count?
Because the count depends on the length and the cut, not the width. A wider roll gives the same number of sheets, each one wider.
How do I read a size written as 6 x 3 x 11 in?
That is a gusset bag: width, then the gusset depth, then height. Flat bags have only two numbers.
